
Dr. Daw Alwerfalli

Dr. Alwerfalli is Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of Master of Engineering Management Program. He has over 36 years of industrial and academic experience. Prior to joining LTU in 1990, Dr. Alwerfalli assumed many engineering positions at various manufacturing industries.
Dr. Alwerfalli is the founder of Manufacturing Engineering Solutions, Inc. a consulting group providing technical and management consulting services to manufacturing companies.. He is very active consultant to the Automotive Industry. His technical expertise assisted many manufacturing companies develop effective Quality Management Systems, reduce waste and enhance quality and productivity. For the past 14 years has been serving as a senior consultant at Advance Manufacturing Engineering of Chrysler. He developed and taught several training courses, seminars and workshops in Quality Systems, Environmental Management Systems, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Product Innovation and Design, Leadership and Management and Continuous Improvement for Chrysler, General Motors, DMU, CAMI, QPI, QUAD Industries, MDPITC, WELDMATION and many others. He conducted several diversity training programs on how to do business in the Middle East to oil companies such as ExxonMobil, CONCO Philips, Marathon Oil Co.
Dr. Alwerfalli’s research efforts are published in several conferences at the national and international level. Were he recently presented a paper in the 2009 International Conference in Monaco, on renewable Energy. His paper won the first place award among 121 speakers from around the world. His areas of expertise include: Manufacturing Systems Design, System Integration / Configuration and Optimization, Production Planning and Control, Product Innovation and Design, Renewable Energy, Quality Systems and Manufacturing Engineering Education. Through his active research efforts, he was awarded several grants from SME, NSF, Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler in support of manufacturing engineering education at LTU.
Dr. Alwerfalli is very active in curriculum and program development. He has successfully developed and launched the Master of Engineering Management degree program at LTU and Chrysler at JTE facility. In recognition of his excellent achievements in teaching Dr. Alwerfalli was the recipient of the “2009 Arab American of the Year in Education”. The award was given to him by AAPN. Dr. Alwerfalli also was the recipient of “1997 Marburger’s Excellence in Teaching Award” at LTU. He also received the “Outstanding Mechanical Engineering’s Faculty Award for 2004”. He is also listed in “Marquis Who is Who” in addition to many other recognition and achievement awards.
Dr. Alwerfalli is a senior member of many professional organizations such as: SME, ASME, SAE, and ASPE. He serves on the strategic committee of the US-Arab Economic Forum since 2003. He is the faculty advisor of SME-LTU student’s chapter. He served for many years as member of the FOCUS-HPOE steering committee. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Arab American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) since 2002. Dr. Alwerfalli serves also on ADC advisory board. Dr. Alwerfalli is extremely active in many community organizations in Michigan.
Dr. Alwerfalli taught at AL-Fateh University in Libya, University of Detroit Mercy, and Wayne State University. Dr. Alwerfalli holds a Doctor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering, Master of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Detroit, Master of Textile Engineering from Georgia Tech. and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Libya.
